This was my favorite album of last year. Like us, they write a lot of story songs with concrete imagery — though unlike Kylee, Karley Hartzman is kind of all over the place with her phrasing and melody. At their core, Wednesday is a country band with more effects pedals.

PJ Harvey has four albums that are essential, but this is her first. DRY is dark, sexy, weird, and a little gross. The group itself, a three-piece, are masters of dynamics. The songs are simple, spare, and sturdy as cinder blocks.
